St. Stephen's Episcopal School to run Race for Education

St. Stephen's Episcopal School located at 215 North Front Street in Harrisburg will hold its 11th Race for Education on Friday, October 30, 2009. The race which will take place on Harrisburg's beautiful scenic Riverfront Park is a major fundraising event for the school. This year the proceeds will go towards educational programming, and to add to this excitement, Gregg Mace, local sportscaster will be our Race Starter.

There will be staggered start times for the different ages: 9 am- 1st through 4th grade students; 10:15 am- pre-school, pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students; 11:30 am-5th through 8th grade students. Each child will run/jog/walk for one hour. Older buddies will assist their younger buddies by cheering them on and doing whatever it takes for them to succeed. This is a true display of compassion and empathy. Individual sponsors are sought by each student for either a flat rate or a rate per lap - then on race day; the students put on their "wheels" and complete as many ¼ mile laps as they possibly can in one hour.

Imagine the sense of pride each and all children feels as they cross the finish line and realize the money they have earned through their very own efforts; can you picture their faces? St. Stephen's has raised over $275,000 over the past ten years and is looking for a very successful race this year. The race is also supported by corporate sponsors such as: PHFA, Hoaster-Gebhard Insurance, Cambridge Investments, etc through monetary donations and/or products and prize contributions.

In 2009, as St. Stephen's celebrates its 31st year with open doors and open hearts, their fit and health conscious students will be raising money for educational programming for their school. The students appreciate knowing that through this race they can contribute directly to programming at their school. What better way to empower children then to offer them the tools, influence, and opportunity to directly improve their educational experience.
